About the project

Navara is a software consultancy where I worked as a Fullstack Software Consultant embedded in a team of over twenty people. The work was TypeScript-first throughout — Node.js, NestJS, Next.js, and React on AWS — which suited my background well and let me hit the ground running on multiple client projects simultaneously.

One of the main assignments was working for Essent as an AWS Lambda specialist. The work centred on serverless infrastructure responsible for accurately calculating and maintaining monthly billing amounts for customers — a high-stakes domain where correctness is non-negotiable. This pushed me to think very carefully about edge cases, idempotency, and how serverless functions behave at scale.

I also independently designed and built a user management portal for BoveMij using React, delivering it under a tight deadline. Managing users, roles and permissions is something that looks simple on the surface but quickly becomes complex when you factor in different access levels across an organisation.

Additionally I contributed to an internal ESG-Dashboard project built with Django and Retool — a good example of picking the right tool for the job rather than defaulting to a full custom build when a faster solution fits the requirement.

What I learned

Working at a consultancy with a large team meant context-switching between client domains frequently, which sharpened my ability to get up to speed quickly in unfamiliar codebases and make useful contributions fast. The Essent assignment deepened my serverless expertise considerably — AWS Lambda, event-driven architecture, and the operational side of keeping billing systems reliable. Working with Retool on the ESG dashboard was a good reminder that sometimes the fastest and most maintainable solution isn't a custom one.
